Planning - WHERE TO BEGIN?

The researching process has begun, only where to begin? As a student, I turn to wikipedia for the absolute basic information about music videos.

music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes.[1] Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. Although the origins of music videos date back much further, they came into prominence in the 1980s, when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 1980s, these works were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip" or "film clip".
Music videos use a wide range of styles of film making techniques, including animation, live action filming, documentaries, and non-narrative approaches such as abstract film. Some music videos blend different styles, such as animation and live action. Many music videos do not interpret images from the song's lyrics, making it less literal than expected. Other music videos may be without a set concept, being merely a filmed version of the song's live performance.

A good place to start - my mind is already contemplating making a mix between live performance and abstract film where the narrative does not relate to the song lyrics. My reason for not tying the lyrics to the visuals to the point of creating narrative is simple; the song I have chosen, You Know My Name, was written for the 2006 film Casino Royale. The songs lyrics, with almost very interpretation, relate to either 007 or Casino Games;
'If you take a life do you know what you'll give?'
'Odds are you won't like what it is'
....
'By the merciless eyes of deceit?'
....
'The odds will betray you'
....
'And if you think you've won'
'You never saw me change'
'The game that we've all been playing'

....
'Try to hide your hand'
....
'Life is gone with just a spin of the wheel'
